Why every business needs digital marketing this Diwali

By Ujjawal ‘Monk’ Kumar31 Oct 2026

Diwali is on Sunday, 8 November 2026, and Dhanteras is two days before, on Friday 6 November. Whether you run a sweet shop, a clinic, a coaching class, a salon or a B2B service, your customers are deciding where to spend right now, and most of them are deciding on their phones.

Why this is not only for online stores

Meta’s Festive Accelerator 2026 playbook, as reported in the press, says 86% of festive shoppers look for inspiration on social media before they buy, and that 60% of new online shoppers come from Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. People check Instagram, Google and WhatsApp before they walk into a shop, call a service or book a visit. If you are not visible there, someone else gets the festive enquiry.

Simple test: search your business name and your service plus your area on Google Maps and Instagram. If a stranger would not find you, trust you or know how to contact you in under a minute, that is the gap.

When shoppers decide

The same playbook describes two demand windows: a planned shopping peak that starts around six weeks before the occasion, and a last-minute surge in the final 48 hours. If you missed the early window, the last-days window is still open. It rewards businesses that are easy to find and easy to message.

What to do in the last days before Diwali

  1. Fix your Google Business Profile. Correct festive hours, phone number, address, fresh photos and one clear festive offer.
  2. Make it one tap to enquire. A WhatsApp button on your page, profile and ads. Reply within minutes, not days.
  3. Post three simple things. Your festive offer, a short reel showing the product or service, and a last-day-to-order reminder.
  4. Run a small, focused ad. One offer, one audience near you, one button that opens WhatsApp. Start small and watch what comes back.
  5. Follow up. Everyone who messages gets an answer the same day. A thank-you with a next-step offer brings repeat orders.

Do not stop on Diwali night

The playbook also points to what comes after: Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the November to February wedding season, year-end celebrations and Republic Day sales. Its advice is to reuse the interest you built through retargeting, WhatsApp broadcasts and reminders instead of starting from zero for each occasion. Save everyone who enquired, with their consent, and message them again with a relevant offer.

What digital marketing cannot do

It will not fix a weak product, slow replies or a confusing price. It also cannot promise a number of sales. What it can do is put you in front of people who are already looking, make it easy for them to reach you, and show you what is working so the next festival is better planned.

A quick checklist for this week

  • Google Business Profile updated with festive hours and offer
  • WhatsApp number on every profile, page and ad
  • One festive offer written in a single clear line
  • Three posts scheduled before Dhanteras
  • A list of enquirers to follow up with after Diwali
